まずは、本日のテキストを意味を考えながら黙読してみてください。
A wealthy man was near death.
He had all the material possessions he wanted: a mansion, a private jet, pleasure boats and fancy cars.
Yet his last words were, "I will offer all my possessions for a moment of time."
Just before he passed away, the wealthy man realized he had always spent his time on foolhardy activities, not on his children's spiritual upbringing, which was the most precious thing in the world.
He undoubtedly wished he could live a little longer to provide his children with some words of wisdom, and undo the wrongful deeds of his past.
Unfortunately, all his expensive possessions could not buy time.
次に、本日の英文を意味のまとまりに区切って、まとまりごとに和訳をつけてみましたので、確認してください。
A wealthy man was near death (ある裕福な人が死に瀕している).
He had all the material possessions he wanted (彼は望んだ物的所有物は全て手に入れた)
: a mansion, a private jet, pleasure boats and fancy cars (豪邸、自家用ジェット、趣味のクルーザーや高級車など).
Yet his last words were (しかし、最後の言葉は),
"I will offer all my possessions for a moment of time (自分の全ての所有物をしばしの時間と引換えに差し出そう)."
Just before he passed away (彼が息を引き取るちょっと前に),
the wealthy man realized (その裕福な人は気づいた)
he had always spent his time on foolhardy activities (彼は自分の時間をいつも向こう見ずな活動のために費やした),
not on his children's spiritual upbringing (自分の子供達の精神的な養育のためにではなく),
which was the most precious thing in the world (それは世界の中で最も貴重なことだったのに).
He undoubtedly wished he could live a little longer (疑いなく彼はほんの少しだけでも長く生きたいと臨んでいた)
to provide his children with some words of wisdom (子供達に大切な言葉を与えるために),
and undo the wrongful deeds of his past (そして自分の過去の誤った行為を帳消しにするために).
Unfortunately, all his expensive possessions could not buy time （不運にも、全ての彼の高価な所有物は時間を買うことはできなかったが）.
最後に、ネイティブの音声を聞き、その後に続くポーズ（１～２秒）の部分で、それを真似るように、音読してみてください。なお、音読の際には、できるだけ、日本語の意味を浮かべるようにしてみてください。
